funny, enjoyable. It reminds me of Benyamin Sueb's films.

The beginning of the film reminds me of Anak Sabiran (2013) directed by Hafiz, produced by Forum Lenteng, Indonesia. The now-generation of filmmaker tries to see the history of their own cinema through the older ones. I feel related because in Indonesia we have the golden of cinema, but falls down in 1990. The two films also tells about the impact of Cold War on postcolonial countries and its cinema.

Djajakusuma made this movie, brought crews and actors to the West Sumatera. Since Embun, Djajakusuma tried to Explore Nusantara folklores. He shows us the martial art, rumah gadang, judi, and how women marginalized but at the same time can flirtious. Djajakusuma background was performing art. His films were different from Usmar Ismail, His collegue in Perfini. Usmar wanted to bring nationalism as consciousness, while Djajakusuma focus on ethnicities in Nusantara.

When Usmar Ismail away, go to USA to learn scriptwriting, Djajakusuma took over Perfini. This is the first film directed by Djajakusuma as the right hand of Usmar. Although the film still narrating the condition after Independence 1945, but Djajakusuma's shots are diverse, richer than Usmar.
