“Big Fish” is one of my guilty pleasure films. It’s probably not a 5 star film as it sometimes feels like it stretches on for too long, but I can’t help myself, I simply love this movie.

I’m not sure what it is about this film but I’m always absolutely wrecked when it ends. It’s just a beautiful, fantastical film with early 2000s charm and a touching story about a father and his boy. Can’t get enough of it. 5 stars.

    ★★★

Adapted from an opera of the same name (which was further adapted from a 2018 french novel), “Emilia Pérez“ tells the story of a lawyer (portrayed by Zoe Saldaña) who assists a Mexican drug cartel kingpin (portrayed by Karla Sofía Gascón) on their transition to becoming a woman. Consistent with its source material, there are musical numbers dispersed throughout the 132 minute run time.

Publicly, there has been much discourse around “Emilia Pérez“. Many criticize the film for cultural misrepresentation…
