A pastoral, horrifying, and honest portrayl of war that's as poetic as it is brutal, following a young man's journey as he transforms from a bright eyed young recruit into a hollow shell as he witnesses the inhumanity and cruelty his fellow man is capable of. A devastating descent and examination of barbarism and the utter pointlessness of war. Florya from the outset is doomed to witness horrors beyond what he or the audience can even imagine and the other shoe drops like a bomb, both in a literal and figurative sense.
