Didn’t know this was so funny- “what are you barking about”…”barking?! It was Swahili!”

A superb capture of whimsy and delicious naïve. A showing of Girlhood in puddled finery, navigating men, cynicism and the stretched limits of what it means to be a woman and what a woman can always be. Exceptionally visceral colour grading and ephemeral world building similar to that of Lemony Snicket. I particularly enjoyed the controversial yet incredible performance by Mark Ruffalo (made more surreal and absurd as the film progressed). Emma Stone, as always a true chameleon of story, clad in pink ruffles and wide eyes.

I remember this film being better? Honestly, I think in this Andrew Tate, schizo-masculine phase that the culture is in, this film is much less striking. The manic dialogue is something you could find on an Instagram reel.

I hate the “alpha” and degenerative sanctimonious speech about how big capitalism has failed men? If your life sucks as a man, it is not societies fault for “feminising your gender” or a woman’s fault for gaining power in the cultural space…
