started whooping and hollering in the cinema when I saw “music by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross” in the opening credits

Meshes of the Afternoon 1943
This was an immediate rewatch — this time with Teiji Ito’s subsequently added soundtrack (my initial viewing was silent). It is a great sonic accompaniment, one which enhances the eerie, surrealist tone of the film — though there is certainly an argument to be made that a silent viewing captures the atmosphere of the dream state(?) in a purer form, perhaps. Ultimately, it is a matter of preference, but I’m gonna bump this up from a 4 to a 4.5 either way.
