Like Miami Vice, the mood and visual style transcends the plot. Hemsworth is not believable at all as the world’s best hacker, he’s like the caveman in the Geico commercials, but I think it's fitting. Per usual Mann explores the tension between intimacy and freedom, but in Blackhat extends this to digital connection versus embodiment. Hemsworth being a walking contradiction of headiness and brute physicality is a personification of this conflict and so it works for me.

Miami Vice 2006
I haven't watched the television series, but I've always liked this clip from the show: www.youtube.com/watch?v=-aMCzRj3Syg
Except for Phil Collins, all the elements of that scene are present in the film. Rhythmic editing, pop music, dreamy atmosphere, gentle stoicism, it's all there and is what makes the movie great.
