Nightbitch 2024
Amy Adams brings energy and charm to this quirky tale of suburban motherhood and a bizarre transformation into a dog. Directed by Marielle Heller, the film begins with an intriguing premise but falters, offering surface-level commentary on identity and societal pressures. It leans too heavily into sentimentality, losing the darker edge its title suggests. "Nightbitch" is an entertaining yet uneven showcase of Adams’ range.

Solvent 2024
"Solvent" has a soul; a soul troubled by the world, by history, by the horrors of everything. And yet, as I’ve learned from interviews, it’s the work of someone who doesn’t believe in the concept of a soul. Instead, the film grapples with the idea that the only accountability we have is to ourselves; not to God, not to belief in a nation, nor to faith in good, evil, or the supernatural. As the main character puts it: "There are no such things as curses; only people and their decisions."

Hacking at Leaves 2024
Had the pleasure of seeing Grenzfurtner's latest film before its release, thanks to a press link from a friend. What a ride it was. It's rare to see themes of colonialism, reservations, the challenges of the pandemic, and hacker culture combined in such an entertaining yet enlightening way. It’s also very refreshing to see computer history and culture being reflected from a totally different angle than your everyday 'Steve Jobs was a genius' documentary.

Talk to Me 2022
This is a genuinely great movie that offers a fresh spin on an overused theme. The Phillippou Brothers nailed it with a gripping, atmospheric, and legitimately terrifying take on demonic possession. While it’s not earth-shattering, it stands out for its creativity and risks. The superb cast and clever nods to classic horror tropes make it a must-watch for fans of the genre. Don’t let the hype cloud your experience.
