Two facts:
-I’m ~not like other girls~ and liked Glen before he blew up (back in his Scream Queens days).
-Richard Linklater is one of my all-time favorite directors.
And yet…
I still thought this movie was …pretty dumb?
This whole thing felt like nothing more than an opportunity for GP to show off his ~range~ and…while range he certainly has, a movie that’s little more than a glorified montage just doesn’t do it for me. Also, what in the cheesy-ass epilogue????????
The phone scene was fun, though.
Half-star added solely for Pierce Brosnan singing
WHEN YOU’RE GONE
how can Ieven try
to go on
in his froggy little voice.
One day I’ll write a thinkpiece on why this is the one movie that makes basically every man cry. Guys see this movie and are moved to tears. Girls see this movie and are like “wow, very sweet” but do not cry. This is a movie for Men Who Need a Good Cry. I think Frank Capra made it for that very reason.
For today I’ll just say that Capra was a national treasure and this movie is very good and touching (even though I personally did not cry).
- Great cinematography.
- Great Nic Cage scream-singing in the car.
- Great giant poster of Bill Clinton, “to show that time had passed.”
- Mediocre plot, especially in the second half.
- Terrible exposition (Can we pls be done with exposition montages in horror films????????? Can we collectively agree to just stop with it? Please??????)
