I usually adore Guadagnino but this is largely a miss for me. I enjoyed the style and the coolness of the images and the score and I appreciate that someone just went and celebrated those unapologetically. But I couldn’t really bring myself to care about any of the characters. Clearly, it was all interesting enough for me not to fall asleep after a very long and tiring workday though, and I mean that as a genuine compliment.

Napoleon 2023
Feels old-fashioned as a biopic but it kept me entertained through all of its almost 160 minutes. Also, great sound.
I didn’t initially like that they pinched a few tracks off Martin Phipps’ score for the BBC War & Peace series though - feels a bit cheap to me for a Ridley Scott movie to use music from another film/series, especially if it’s so recognisable. But it is an amazing soundtrack and come to think on it, I feel Napoleon actually used it better, so I can’t be mad at it.Translated from by -
