Kudos to the director for taking such a bold risk with shooting this in first person pov, unfortunately, it made it really hard to connect with the characters and was often times difficult to follow.
I read a review that called the film a “companion piece” and not a “direct translation” of the novel and I think this is an apt description; the viewer needs the details from the novel to fully capture the devastating heartbreak that is this story.…
A fineeeee biopic. His music was lovely to listen to and the acting is what carried this film but I ultimately came away learning nothing new about Bob Dylan. The climax of the film was him switching to electric guitar and some board members telling him to play acoustic which was really hard to give one frick about. I left the theatre wanting to know more about the women in the film.
I went into this thinking it was going to be some boring, Oscar-bait drama but this was so cunty; I loved it. Great cast, banger score and stunningly shot (oooft that first scene in the theatre, the popes walking with their umbrellas, and really any scene shot in the courtyard). The ending was a bit much but had me gagged nonetheless.
