  I've watched this film countless times and I find something new to love EVERY single time. An absolute masterclass in cinematography, the lighting MY GOD, the score, the set and costume design, the acting, the script...there is just SOOO much quiet beauty & nuance in every single shot of this film.

  Also Lesley Manville and her "Don't pick a fight with me, you certainly won't come out alive. I'll go right through you and it'll be you who ends up on the floor." Always sends a delightful thrill through me.

  I had such high hopes for this and wanted to see Nicole Kidman lean into the icy, embodied pervert she can usually play spectacularly. But this was not it!

  Firstly, casting Antonio Bandares as a man who can't fuck ?! Insanity. Given the uptick in awareness of kink & D/s I thought this might actually offer the viewer something transgressive but it was *incredibly* tame and had nothing new or exciting to say. Eyes Wide Shut came out 25 years ago…

  I have such mixed feelings about this one..the first half played out tense and enthralling and Hugh Grants later in life pivot to playing weirdos and queer roles has been a joy to watch. I just couldn't help but be reminded of the million men I've met along the way who can't wait to debate you (largely against your will) to prove a point you had already figured out at age 15. An A24 rendition of what I imagine it's like to meet Charles Dawkins

  Aishwarya Rai in an anti-imperialist Jane Austen adaptation + Bollywood bangers + surprise Ashanti moment (!) + the same team working on it as Bend it Like Beckham + Indira Varma as an ice queen. This genuinely slaps !
