Really dislike that this falls into the trope of sexually torturing a woman who has no agency, then when she exhibits distress through sexual behaviors the white knight male protagonist is like "this is hot" and not "this woman is in no state to consent and needs help".
But it's David Lynch and a precursor to twin peaks or whatever so I guess it's fine.
"Pardon my french. My mother smoked during pregnancy." and "my word is my motherfucking bond" have lived rent free in my mind for nearly a decade. They couldn't have adapted this story any better way I think.
Strong first two parts, I really liked the shadow gestures and soundtrack. Lost me in the last third or so. Plot just sort of stops, no emotional catharsis, didn't really offer any valuable insight. pleasantly surprised by the lack of hate crimes, but overall it just made me feel bad in an uninteresting way.
