    felt like i was watching a loose adaptation of "and the hippos were boiled in their tanks" rather than a retelling of a true story. although, i didnt quite enjoy the handling of the night in question, the film does a wonderful job capturing the initial pulse of america's most influential literary movement, with this crime at the very heart of it. also loved how they used jazz to showcase their creative folly.

    the casting was pretty good, they truly embodied the essence of the beatniks. didnt expect ben foster to be such an incredible young burroughs, he got his voice right and nailed his mannerisms!

    had such a weird experience with this film. when i started watching it several scenes seemed familiar, but i didn’t really remember any plot points. as i was reaching the ending i realised i watched it when i was 13-14, probably the first queer movie i’ve ever seen. i remember being so scared of what the future held for me, thinking this is what it was going to be like growing up as a queer person— constantly hiding and living…
