An amazing movie that shows the corrupting influence of wealth, greed, and the antisocial personalities that inevitably come out on top. The true God of There Will Be Blood is money; some are willing to kill for it, lie for it, and die for it as a martyr.
This and the equally amazing Wild Robot prove that computer animation can actually look beautiful. It’s funny though, the most beautiful computer animated movies all imitate hand-drawn (the superior, if tedious, method).
I’m glad that we are moving away from generic computer-generated animation in favour of more distinct and beautiful art styles that will undoubtedly age better (*cough* Toy Story *cough*).
As a thriller, it is exciting, with twists and turns that keep you engrossed. Hugh Grant is brilliant as a villain with a charming exterior and a sinister interior. The two missionaries are also fantastic and very convincing in their roles. Sister Barnes' delivery of dialogue perfectly sets her up as the more self assured, experienced missionary, while Sister Paxton's delivery positions her as the younger, naive missionary. Brilliantly acted. It's a satisfying thriller that I enjoyed watching.
