  Incredibly competent screenplay, acting, directing, editing, etc. I can't imagine how well-crafted this seemed compared to the average film in 1957. This is a script that could win an Oscar today and no one would bat an eye.

  Although I love the movie, it always feel as though it's oddly overrated. It just never feels truly transcendent of the time period the way other pre-70s classics do.

  This may just be a preference, but it's always felt like it's like…
