Lacks substance?
Detective Willem Dafoe, a gay homophobic drag queen, learns the power of friendship and meaning of true justice from two Irish Catholic vigilantes, and you’re saying it lacks substance?
Have a particular distaste for this film as a Catholic. In Conclave, the Cardinals are far more interested in diversity/ambition/corruption than actual doctrine, which I guess you can expect from a Hollywood portrayals of Catholicism. Not to say those aren’t actual traits of humanity, but to not focus on godly men is trite.
This movie visually looks awesome and I think Ralph Fiennes is fantastic, as always. But even besides my faith, the story is unfocused. It incorporates characters (Sister Agnes) and themes (car bombing) that feel out of place. Would’ve liked Lithgow and Tucci to have more opportunities to shine.
