Not many films can say they are truly one of a kind, but this is certainly one of them. How the fuck does this even exist?

Cléo from 5 to 7 1962
God this is so fucking brilliant. The amount of ground this covers in just 90 real-time minutes of a person's life is immense. Every theme is weaving and interacting with such grace, fears born of a fast moving and tragic world, the role of fame and beauty in the modern day, expectations placed on women and men, to name only a handful. For a film that covers so much ground it feels totally weightless. Varda's combo of verite style and some eye-watering traditional blocking is so masterful that this film, even amongst new wave contemporaries, is in a league of its own. ABSOLUTE CINEMA

Lots to love but LOTS to hate about this one
Frustratingly good ending for how viscerally aggravating that final third was. Constantly feels like an intellectual exercise in how far you can take the medium and still be taken seriously. Unfortunately, this only infrequently achieved an emotional connection beyond being just a cinematic experiment.
Seriously makes tarkovsky look like michael bay
