Poinant and beautiful movie. Loved the concepts and themes around how much people change, long distance and longing. Some parts I couldn't believe though, like why was didn't he ever visit her in US? Why was he so obsessed with a childhood friend? Otherwise really enjoyed it.
Interesting watch for a weeknight. Amazing footage of early Melbourne, but felt it was only telling part of the story. Came away thinking it over glorified the 19th century "marvellous Melbourne" which seems to completely ignore the indigenous history of that era, while I also did agree with the overall premise of preserving some of the beautiful architecture from that era.
A somewhat wierd and surreal movie that's story twists and turns in unexpected waya. It's narrative is compelling in a strange way to keep you watching while making some clear analogies to the impacts of colonialism. Amazing scene in the middle when the prostitute visits the army camp.
