Hey they can't all be The Insider, ya know?
Ultimately a bit of a mess, but extremely stylish and enteraining throughout. The globetrotting nature of the film is very cool. Hong Kong is always the best movie city, especially for action scenes. Also I've been to Perak, Malaysia where they have the tin dredge heh heh. The gun battles in this are typical Mann excellence, as is the digital photography. Hilarious, meditative and melancholy.
Such a great tactile quality to this movie, I've grown accustomed to modern comedies feeling overly sleek and produced that this really felt quite singular. What should be a cool movie gets totally derailed by very dull stretches.
The cyberpunk world and aesthetic is extremely cool. All the backgrounds are well crafted and very specific to the world. Halfway through the movie there’s an extended sequence of just snapshots of different parts of the city and that might have been my favourite bit. The crazy sci fi jargon being used is great, and you’re just along for the ride. The action sequences have great visuals…
