La Chimera 2023
Uniquely thoughtful about living life in the shadow of death, and what a lonely (and maybe delusional) venture it is to believe in the spirit. Not something I have seen explored often and was done so so well in this film. The moments when he is around people and gets his revelations affected me so deeply—the way he staggers off, the look on his face, the immediate lonely turn from a collectively joyful moment.

Suddenly, I wonder how the subjects of a Goya painting might smell.
There was a very brief moment during the film's opening where it was tonally reminiscent of . . . Pirates of the Caribbean. Look at this ridiculous man! No doubt we will see him humiliated, to our continued amusement. With one humorless act of violence, this is dispelled. From there, we do indeed see him continually humiliated, but it is not quite what I would call amusing.
