Whiplash doesn’t reflect on the “modern realities of jazz”, instead a stereotypical portrayal of jazz is present so that uncomfortable emotions can be evoked. The film dives into complexities in power dynamics within men, toxic masculinitiy, and pursuing greatness at any cost.
The cinematography in this film can teach us many lessons about human nature through the jazz industry.
