probably too positive sometimes but that’s me for ya
what a sweet lil anthology film - the first two segments, the latter of which was Edward Yang’s first directorial effort, were just so cute & likeable & really laid the foundation for what would become the Taiwan New Wave
the third one was by far the weakest for me, but it still had its moments - luckily, the fourth segment brought back the momentum, showing the more humorous side of the movement with a much more comedic & wacky scenarios kind of approach
overall, it was really cool to see the beginnings of the Taiwan New Wave
such a reflective & meditative experience that really just leaves you pondering in a state of sorrow yet solace - Hou just beautifully captures a sense of mindfulness & gratitude with how effortlessly grounded the film is in reality
with that being said, it is lacking in some areas, but it still works overall with just how powerfully subdued & from the heart it is
I’ve been a Rocky fan for years now, yet I somehow hadn’t seen this one until now. And let me tell you this, I am not disappointed in the slightest.
This is one of the most famous and iconic films for a reason. Everything about it is amazing! Rocky is one of my favourite movie characters of all time and I can tell that Sylvester Stallone put a ton of effort into this film cause it definitely payed off! I love everything about this film and I’m glad I finally got to see it!
