At one point John's mother says, "That boy's as stubborn and mulish as a sheep", which is one of the most bizarre similes I've ever heard.
Also enjoyed the face Mr. Spoon makes while taking a swig of peach brandy despite his mother's protest.

Almost turned it off during the Big Bang Theory romance dialogue and I wish I had!

Added almost nothing to Jesse Pinkman's story other than explicit depictions of his torture that were already heavily implied in Breaking Bad and a bizarre "Stockholm Syndrome" flashback that Game of Thrones did better and actually earned. The Walt cameo was fun on reveal but delivered only a whimsical conversation that absolutely did not merit inclusion and beats you over the head with thematic dialogue. And at the end it reminds you that Jesse was a father figure to Brock and liked Jane. Neat! Three stars for solid action directing and Jonathan Banks.
The first half of this movie sets up what should have been a much more interesting second, but the overwhelmingly feel good ending doesn't sit right with me considering how seriously the movie takes itself. Synecdoche New York comparisons are pretty easy to make, there are obvious parallels in the setting, themes of fate and death, and the literal voice in your ear, but otherwise this film isn't attempting nearly as much as Kaufman's. I think this is a lot closer to something like Liar Liar or Click than people realize.
