Tampopo 1985
a serious cinematic flex. visually perfect. the ritual in everything really emphasized the importance for intentionality, respect, and appreciation of even the most mundane aspects of life. definitely a strong message of hardwork, passion and how the two are intertwined. one without the other, won’t really work. there’s a quiet, patient kind of devotion… mastery of any craft can’t come quickly but through constant effort and a surrendering to the process. loved the part with the “foodie” bums. these happy…

Le Samouraï 1967
Jef Costello never loses, not really. I really enjoyed this. Very stylish. The discipline and eventual sacrifice made at the end make him a true Samurai. We love a man with a strong sense of self that truly lives by the rules he’s set for himself. But we also really love a woman that may have more flexible morals, yet is loyal af (shoutout my bitch jane). Interesting contrast there.

Baby Invasion 2024
my senses were completely and totally assaulted. overall, felt lazy. burial soundtrack was pretty sick. i expect more from harmony korine but perhaps he’s just getting old and isn’t able to keep his finger on the pulse like he used to. quite a few times throughout i thought, “oh!!! here he goes, it’s about to go in” but he didn’t.
