that airplane crash scene is so chilling. The acting was beautifully done although the English voiceover acting was hard to sit through. The effects and detail that this film was made with to portray the rawness and devastation of the situation was perfection and I appreciate that they didn’t harp on gore or shock value - but more a very well done - respectful - depiction of the impossible that became possible. I like to think I can sit through any violent or scary movie unscathed but this one got me.
what a challenging film in the sympathy I felt for Arthur the entire time. Even in his murderous acts, the writing allows for the audience to justify and understand everything he does and his specific breaking points. I appreciate how Joaquin Phoenix doesn’t play the joker as one dimensional but instead a normal person who is mentally ill and is ruined by the world around him. It’s a commentary on classism and mental illness. I would’ve loved to have seen…
favorite movie of all time. It’s a mirror to gruesomeness in addiction around us and overall humanity in life and in every family. Each scene is beyond purposeful and moves the story along efficiently but with sensitivity and stillness. The acting is next level and heartbreaking just beyond I would give it 20 stars. I have watched this movie 8 times, makes me cry everytime and feel like an open wound. I love it and what a beautiful and humble way to simply relay the message of someone’s real story. No bells or whistles, just honesty and heart
Such a well done movie. Each shot is purposeful and sensitive and the acting is superb. I wish the ending was a little bit more of a punch and that it wasn’t so predictable - like more of a build between the horrible family members so that they betray the audience more. I also would have loved a more painful reveal of the girlfriend when she finds the keys - something along the same lines as the overall eerie essence and imagery throughout the piece.
