A bromance rom-com starring Eddie and Venom that includes breaking up a dog-fighting ring, running as fugitives in the southwestern U.S., befriending a conspiracy-loving family, dancing to ABBA at the risk of destroying the earth, and some pretty great symbiote fight scenes. Listen folks, if Tom Hardy's having fun, then so am I.
This film has a lot of potential. The actors in their respective roles are great - I don't know about the Chameleon as a character, but want to know more; the Rhino seems to actually be a threat; the Foreigner is this cool assassin; and of course Aaron Taylor Johnson embodies Kraven.
The themes / topics also are interesting - the idea of family loyalty, abandonment, what it means to be a man, humanity's barbaric behavior contrasted with the natural…
Lots of respect for Sean Baker and the execution of this film - to write, direct, and edit is no joke. All on a 6 mil budget.
Cast was great and always love good comedic integration in dramas because hey, sometimes life makes you want to laugh and cry in the span of the same 10 min.
Finally, shout out to the Anora/Igor scene discussing the importance of names - I've heard people praise the ending of the film, which is great, but this interaction had to be my favorite.
A movie can have flaws, and Wild Robot isn't perfect, but it hits at the heart of what film should do - make me feel something. Exemplary emotionally intelligent, character-driven movie.
