Finally got the chance to watch this on a flight from Atlanta, Georgia, to Phoenix, Arizona, after only ever knowing about it through the first "McLovin" scene. The cops in this movie might be wildly incompetent and regularly abuse the authority of their badges (so, normal cop behavior), but I still found myself endeared to them and Fogell's night on the town. Also this is probably the most likable Jonah Hill has ever been.

Blood Simple 1984
Hilarious in the mundanity of what causes all the violence, harrowing to actually watch. Obsessed with the editing here. There's a shot of a newspaper being delivered that felt like a jumpscare in slow motion. Coen brothers movies are like Breaking Bad to me in the way they depict southwest America. Just wish I had picked a better time to watch it than on an airplane.

Punishment Park 1971
This might be one of the most deeply upsetting movies I've ever seen, not for violent content or disturbing imagery, but for its deeply prescient depiction of American imperialism, bigotry, and fascism. It feels redundant to say so, but this movie really is as relevant and accurate to American society now as it was fifty-two years ago when it was made. It is quite honestly haunting how many lines of dialogue feel like they've been spoken verbatim in political discussion…
