  more than anything the lines about the 12-year old girl he used to know being gone literally broke me. there's something sad and cathartic in mourning the person you would have been if you stayed and grew up in your home country, especially devastating when faced with the 'what ifs' you'll never get to explore. what a beautiful film.

  completely shatters the notion of ‘homecomings’, and that getting in touch with your roots/culture will help you figure it out and heal for all the immigrant/adopted/diaspora kids. sometimes you are still messy and have to deal with it on your own, and maybe save south korea from north korea along the way 🤷‍♀️

  
  p.s. the way she talks to the first korean person in seoul and turns out that person just speaks perfect french? that’s camp to me, that’s cinema

  P.S. Many have compared Ladybird with RWHC. I don’t think they should be pitted against each other. I find it more interesting to explore what they add to each other. How the experiences of growing up are different for different socioeconomic groups.
