Grave of the Fireflies 1988
Wow, this was just sad! I don’t know what else to say about it. Gorgeous animation, silent storytelling, very effective at communicating emotions. Makes things feel real. In the end, though, the main thing it was… is sad. And I’m not sure what else to take away. Maybe there isn’t more. Maybe the point is just to show what war is. In that case, great job…

This was a good movie. Guy succumbed to his flaw, realized in the end when it was too late. Very satisfying ending scene. Good character writing. It did make me uncomfortable several times and I skipped forward, I’m just that kind of movie watcher ;—; It’s more of a testimony to the movie if anything. Overall showed something about the human experience and that’s what we’re here for, right?

I liked it; Using the word ‘patriarchy’ 5+ times (aside from jokes) detracted from the weight of the meaning imo, show don’t tell is particularly important with issues like this if you don’t want to seem like you’re just hammering out buzzwords. Aside from that, costumes and actors were great, I liked the silly humor and the depth beneath some of it, overall I enjoyed seeing it with my friends and the Ken song was great.
