I enjoyed this movie, though I would have liked to see more of how the Six Triple Eight actually managed to pull off their remarkable achievement. The actual footage at the end was great.
Ok, this is a Hanukkah movie that doesn't have Christmas in it (unlike the last Hanukkah movie I watched, ahem), so for that reason, it deserves kudos. Was there a competition to fit in as many yiddish words as possible, though, as if to prove that this IS a Jewish movie? And I'm sorry, but there just happens to be Manischevitz at the bar?
Look, I'll give Hallmark props for a) having a "Hanukkah" movie and b) a gay character. But this is barely a Hanukkah movie! Leah is so excited to go to her boyfriend's parents' house for her first Christmas, a holiday she loves. She feels like she's doing everything wrong and doesn't fit in with his family. Blah blah blah. It's a Christmas movie disguised as a "Hanukkah" movie!
When I saw this movie with my then boyfriend, I had never seen him cry. I told myself if this movie didn't make him cry, we'd have a serious issue. Thankfully, he isn't made of stone, and I later married him.
