Hellzapoppin' 1941
Wow, holds up better than most comedy of its time, and with all the fourth-wall breaking rapid-fire-style gags, this is almost avant-garde. Bonus: these guys basically invent Mystery Science Theater in the middle of this movie.

The Holdovers 2023
We may not have Hal Ashby and Mike Nichols anymore, but we've got Alexander Payne, and I'll take it. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go read Meditations by Marcus Aurelius, you cretins.

Ad Astra 2019
This is Robert Heinlein/Arthur C. Clarke sci-fi, i.e. a story about a square-jawed (invariably caucasian) guy dealing with the continued shortcomings of humankind despite a future of bold space exploration. It's good not great. Brad Pitt is mesmerizing, as is the photography and sound design. The problems come with the lack of surprise in the resolution of the story and the almost ridiculous amount of refrigerator logic -- so many plot points don't hold water if you think about them very long. The best sequences are incidental to the A-story.
