Sophie Thatcher is really having her moment and I am here for it.

A survival horror that asks the question about autonomy and sentience coated with social commentary about the patriarchy. Interesting twists and well timed balanced comedy. Didn’t get whiplash from the jokes, and some nice subtle details and foreshadowing sprinkled throughout. Loved it.

Lot of great cinematography and blocking. A lot of great commentary on classism and antisemitism during the 50’s-60’s as well as the complexity of addiction and coping with trauma. Some great symbolism within the movie like the twins with regards to their father. Really enjoyed the end speech where we get some nuances and details laid out explicitly which helped to appreciate the film.

Upon further reflection, it’s also just as likely that meaning is impressed upon his work rather than his actual meaning being conveyed which is something the main character touches on as well. A thoughtful and poetic ending.
