Mickey 17 playfully colors the screen with a variety of genres using brushstrokes that are intentional and with enough depth to blend together a sweet, funny, witty, satirical, and hopeful story.

Put into the POV of this sci-fi society’s lowest rung, I found myself sympathetic to that feeling of being less than a person and no bigger than a dust mite to monolithic corporations or the might and control of a nation state.

As good as it ever was. Part one of a bloody good time.

Worth a watch? Of course. Unless you have a phobia of the color red, then you might want to sit this one out. Because in the world of Kill Bill the cannon fodder bad guys have a highly pressurized cardiovascular system that threatens to burst like a fire hydrant the moment they make contact with whatever The Bride is holding.

Wasn’t sure what to expect going in beyond the premise. I will say, I enjoyed the first act of the movie and its romantic subplot.

There’s something amusing about prior generations idea of romance involving by today’s standards definitive stalking and grounds for a restraining order. Looking at you Melanie hunting down a man to his family home followed by breaking and entering as a “gag.”

Great cinematography, phenomenal acting, felt its length a little as some story beats slowed things down as we were building to the end of the movie. Nicole Kidman crushed this role. Supporting cast also put in 110%. A story, I think, in part about the people, things, and ideas (namely love for this story) that keep someone going when everything else feels like it’s gone wrong.

Worth a watch? Yes. An easy recommend if an odyssey type story set in the last months of the US civil war would interest you.
