I feel like everyone’s talked about the ageism and sisterly rivalry, but im thinking about how significant the song “I’ve Written a Letter to Daddy” is to the film.
From the first few minutes we see him, Father Hudson cements the rivalry between the two sisters. His favoritism for Jane over Blanche evolves into Jane’s desire for her own fame independent from Blanche’s, and Blanche’s frustration with Jane’s popularity and positive attention during their youth.
