Is it tense or is everyone just shouting over each other for the whole film?
Age gap is repulsive and off-putting- I spent the entire film thinking they were having to hide their relationship / attraction because Oliver was so much older than Elio, not because of their sexuality. So I was never on board and spent most of it a little repulsed. It's beautifully shot and feels like spending time in a warm country... but while watching a v problematic relationship with a gross age gap. I'd say it's miscast but Timothee Chalamet is incredible - the final scene is great. Just get rid of Armie Hammer, he's a rapist anyway.
I found this very disappointing. The plot is slow and hard to follow. Its hardly scary- definitely more horrifying than horror, and even then it's not particularly horrifying. The point / message is obfuscated by the confusing time jumps and scene switches. Wouldn't recommend but so many people seem to love it that I'm really wondering whether a) I missed something or b) I'm a total idiot
