  This one captures a certain feeling of placelessness and isolation so well. At the same time, maybe because of this, it felt like it could have been set anywhere—there was nothing anchoring the film in Japan other than a few quick gags.   I spent so many hours as a really little girl listening to this movie soundtrack on the tape player in my mom’s car/house while I stared at the poster on its case, but somehow I’d never actually SEEN the film. (I have seen the stage musical.) There are few things that make me happier than the title number of this musical. There are several other songs I adore here, partly for nostalgia, partly for humor, and partly for  the drama.…

  Honestly really refreshing to see a pop culture take that a) does remind me of Trump while b) avoiding reminding me of Alec Baldwin. 

  I hesitated to give it five stars—mostly because it’s about Trump—but decided to anyways. I think it’s cut in really interesting ways.
