Truman asks out loud, "What's this?" when the light falls from the sky. That wouldn't be normal to do in real life but he's learned from the actors around him. Same with his goofy morning routines, someone must've encouraged them. I really wonder what his recovery process would've been like, post show after escaping.
Interesting things I noticed:
* Truman's mother has a portrait of herself on the mantel in her house.
* Guards are wearing shirts that say "Love him. Protect him."
* Christof: "You have nothing to fear" while consistently training him all his life to be afraid of dogs and the water.
"Computers and programs will start thinking, and people will stop."
Flynn only makes money from his arcade and not his games that Dillinger stole. Not that far off from AI stealing artwork. And the MCP going nuts with wanting more control feels suspiciously on par with what's happening today, just with techbros instead of AI.
Ultimately, this really feels like a fantasy storyline with sci fi elements.
Greasy. That's what this movie is.
Do you want to watch a ripped-from-the-headlines movie about how pregnant girls had to give up their babies and how some people were profiting off said babies? Do you want to see a movie with a scene where a creepy guy in all black pursues a social worker in a car chase then shows up at her house? Then this movie is for you!
As a deaf person, Cleva made me want to punch my TV. Learning that part wasn't based on actual facts (she'd met his deaf parents several times and wasn't freaked out at all) helps but jeez she was painted hard with the villain brush in this.
Also, it's ironic that the actor playing Clarence in this looks more like the real Lon Chaney than Cagney does.
