The Experience 1973
Double Screening: Experience + Waiting
I suppose one can’t really watch any film reflecting on childhood and not think of Truffaut’s The 400 Blows. Sure, there are elements filtered through a different lens but there is such universality that remains. This presentation of innocence, the exploitation, the cruelty untoward, silly smiles, playfulness, doing as you are told, being told off, stuffing your shoes, venturing to places off limit, clothes that are too big, soles too worn. The things we remember that shapes us in our coming-of-age - the memory of a smile at the bend of the road, smoking as the men do.

Waiting 1974
Double Screening: Experience + Waiting

Blood Like Water 2023
A very honest confrontation of different perspectives involved. I had the chance to hear Dima speak about this film and her intention of making it firstly for a Palestinian audience which I thought just added to the authenticity of it.
An important film also in the ways of addressing the hypocrisy of the pink-washing by the occupation and the positions it puts the community in yet love to point hypothetical fingers about.

edward yang is just so wonderfully gentle with his camera.
it’s just a very beautiful film. it’s so poignant and poetic in its reserve. the mundanity through simple and not so simple moments that at the end of the day are all very human, all the lives we live and the ways we live it, the interconnections we have with other, our transitions, decisions, half truths, regrets, etc.
for about 3 hours i felt i was living their lives yet i wasn’t at all far gone from my own.
