The Substance 2024
This year’s Malignant, which I was definitely not anticipating going in, but I somehow still loved this. This was my most anticipated of the year after Longlegs, and Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley deliver incredible (-ly gross) performances and the cinematography is just so so good. Halfway through it goes batshit crazy and I can definitely appreciate it for that, and I had a lot of fun but it also left me thinking about its themes. Is it subtle? Not at all. But I feel like that matches well with the movie’s overall tone. One of the year’s best!
