The Canterbury Tales 1972
pasolini understands what chaucer’s tales contend with, and that many characterisations of the medieval have forgotten, misunderstood or simply ignored: that the presence of the heterodox is made essential by that of the orthodox. the faces in this are of the many, one gets the sense that pasolini is using the same brush piero della francesca used for the legend of the true cross, and the result is something that maintains the weight of the provincial and the timeless. crazy to think this is the only filmed adaptation proper of the tales. ever crazier to see the fourth doctor’s whole hog.
