  Any intellectual effort to resist the appeal of this film, which does at times border on poverty porn, failed. Beautifully shot and staged, seamlessly weaving the scenes of rural life together. Living the Land really does make the land come alive. I couldn't stop thinking about my ancestors - my late grandfather, who spent his life working in a mine, my late grandmother, who spent her life working on a field, my parents, who studied at an agricultural high school…

  Cattet & Forzani's films make me excited about cinema as an art form and that itself deserves respect. this was fun. formally explorative, with the narrative holding together despite all its shenanigans. kept me awake after a whole day of meetings at the EFM although the chances were really slim.
