A very campy film and definitely very satirical. It obviously strays quite a lot from the original text and 1975 film that take a more ‘serious tone’. Not entirely sure how I feel about it being so comedic when the original one is a political statement against violence towards women. The cgi dogs were also awful but Glenn Close’s phenomenal acting makes up for that. Will definitely be watching the original soon.

The Chambermaid 2018
Watched for my film class. Overall decently enjoyed, there was a lotttt of symbolism throughout which I feel is only interesting if you are studying. I enjoyed how economic precarity is explored through employing various sensory techniques though.

Alien 1979
Watched this for the first time a few years ago and rewatched after studying it for a class. A true unbeatable sci-fi classic. Ridley Scott does an incredible job at showing pure human terror and nature under extreme pressure. Also looking at it through Ash’s perspective with the knowledge of his own desires is so interesting.

Ali: Fear Eats the Soul 1974
An incredibly well crafted film about racism in 1970s Germany due to an influx of foreign workers. This film follows Ali, a Moroccan worker in Germany who meets Emmi, a lonely cleaner. Visually this film is amazing, the use of framing in between stairwells and doors and simply the phenomenal use of colour inspired by Sirk’s All the heaven allows (1995). Truly an amazing to come out of new German cinema.
