The balance of Palestinian good humor and perseverance with the ever present ominous undertone of surveillance and policing of indigenous agriculture practices makes for a riveting, pensive watch. The music composition is 10/10 and really added to the mood for the film.
Barbie is a self-aware, heart-warming and relatable film that asks the big questions: “why am I here? What is my purpose” while also giving the most playful bender exploration of the patriarchy. It’s a very beginner’s take on feminism (though still ominously capitalistic) that I’m sure some folks out there need.

I personally loved the sparse dialog. Shots were simple and elegant. This movie offered just enough to want to keep watching despite some of the mundane scenes. In fact, it gave ample time to digest and process the complex emotions and family relationships. Beautiful and somewhat minimal film. Thankful to see the “homecoming” trans narrative approached from this familiar but refreshing angle.
