Felt like a video game (in a good way) !
Cool how they gave the animals depth and personality without relying on dialogue and humans. Noah's Ark but without Noah??
This is a funny film, very wonderfully acted but if Sean Baker's position is that Anora 'champions the voices of marginalised' I don't buy it. It did little to give depth to Ani's character and make me understand her motivations, true persona, anything outside her relationship with Vanya.
Admittedly I've become skeptical of any film about women – marginalised women especially – told through the lens of a man. Why? What's the intention? Do you understand their lived experience enough…
aww, the grumpy old mentor / troubled disgruntled mentee trope does warm my heart! i want to hug someone after watching this (i am so alone)
I was incredibly moved by Kieran Culkin & Jesse Eisenberg's performances in this.
That final hug both broke me and comforted me. It made me think of the many people I wish I hugged that way the last time I saw them.
The night I watched this, I dreamt about my own grandma's house. The one I grew up in.
A Real Pain.... was a real pleasure......
