Calamity Jane & Delphine Seyrig: A Story

    ★★★★

Thrilling to find another piece of media where Delphine is depicted in her essence, this time through the images she created herself, her written words and secret aspirations. Delphine deciding to make this documentary footage before filming her dream film seems to be Chantal's influence. Could I love their collaboration and friendship even more? Delphine's reflection on motherhood towards the end of the film and her encouragement to Duncan "Pleasure is so close if we allow ourselves to be simple" resonated deeply with me, I believe I'll carry that advice with me for a long time 💜

The "Anger" segment is worth the entire film, so distinct from everything else that was presented. Those interviews took me by surprise, frightened and saddened me immensively. I'm a sucker for reimaginings of Genesis so I enjoyed "Gluttony" as well.

    Superbia – The Pride

Possibly the most surrealist piece from Ottinger I've seen so far. The footage of military parades was unexpected and not what I would immediately correlate to the sin, even though it makes sense as a demonstration of nationalist pride. I really liked the mythological introduction with Irm Hermann and would be pleased if this had been a complete series about all sins directed by Ottinger.
