It’s hit or miss, but mostly a miss. In the end, it feels like a missed opportunity, as it seems more focused on shocking and gaining the approval of Western audiences rather than offering deeper analysis and storytelling. Better to watch films like The Witness (Shahed) or Ballad of a White Cow

Visually beautiful, thanks in part to the excellent black-and-white cinematography by Zal, already featured in Ida. The two lead actors' performance is outstanding, and the characters, with their contradictions and weaknesses, stick in the memory. Unfortunately, the film turns out to be far too short, when instead, the narrative would have benefited from more than a few more scenes to better portray the evolution of the characters and their relationships over the years. This is a pity because Pawlikowski manages to deliver genuinely touching moments of rare poetry, as in the finale.

Oz Perkins takes a step forward in strictly directorial terms from the already good The Blackcoat's Daughter. Visually, in fact, it is excellent and succeeds in paying homage to the great horror cinema of the past while modernizing it for the present day. Above all, clear references to Bava and Argento emerge, from whom the director also borrows the use of colors (especially Suspiria). Too bad for the somewhat limp script ( E.g. one “encounter” at the beginning of the movie seems quite forced) and for the pace that sometimes slows down a bit too much. Overall, it is still definitely worth a viewing.

Visually fascinating, crazy, and superbly acted. This short film once again gives proof of the great visionary nature of Cosmatos cinema, who, after the already totally insane and truculent Mandy, manages to hit the mark again.
