I can’t even properly review this at the moment because it feels like it was tailor made for me to watch.
Inter-class themes and the conflicts between traditional family and modern society are at the forefront.
I could never see this as as anything other than a fan fiction, with performances not matching those of the original cast. It is a damn good fan fiction though, and a strong reverence to sphagetti westerns makes Solo a far more enjoyable space cowboy flick than Serenity. Good fun at the cinema but not the Star Wars that I love.

In seriousness though, apart from the subplot (which plays a much larger role in the original novel) feeling a bit tacked on, I can’t really fault it. Yeoh’s performance is incredible, and newcomer Golding impresses. Supports Awkwafina and Ronnie Chieng are also wholly enjoyable. Narrative unfolds with great pacing, and the “two-thirds slump” that can ruin films instead becomes some of the best minutes. Adaption to screen is executed excellently. I can…
