It’s been said endlessly today, but David Lynch really was the best to ever do it. A true artist. An authentic life. Probably the greatest filmmaker of all time.
His work was so crucial to how I learnt about and experienced film in my early 20s. I will forever cherish watching The Return as it came out each week. I vividly remember standing a foot away from the tv screen in awe during the final scenes, and becoming completely overwhelmed…
Not only felt like a homage to, but comfortably sits along side the unnerving, funny, violent and brilliant Australian films - Long Weekend and Wake In Fright. Definitely one of my favourite films seen this year, unreal its a directorial feature debut.
