Ethan sprints to catch a Helicopter, grabbing at the skids he narrowly misses and grabs the cargo hanging by a rope as the score swell and the frame expands for the full IMAX aspect ratio. I am hooting. I am hollering.

It's something truly special when a film you've seen before can still keep you on the she of your seat in anticipation of what's coming next. That slight hesitation from the last one is all gone, McQuarrie and everyone are firing on full cylinders here and it's magnificent.

An absolute belter of an opening for McQuarrie's run of MI movies. Great script, great action (The sense of speed during the motorcycle chase is phenomenal), great cast, but lacks that certain something that makes it an all timer. There's not enough of that playful cartoon energy that Bird or Wu brought to the franchise. Still a banger though.

Also, Rebecca Ferguson, please kill me with your thighs.

Alien: Romulus is a Frankenstein'd together string of random nostalgic moments and allusions, cobbled together with no rhyme or reason or deeper understanding of what actually made those films good in the first place.

Man this a really frustrating movie. The ones where you can see the absolute banger that's just below a mediocre surface are the fucking worst. It's a classic haunted house horror with some parental angst and Jacob's Laddery Vietnam PTSD horror thrown in for good measure, there's some really cool ideas, visuals, some stellar monster designs but it's all let down by a really limp script and lackadaisical edit. So many scenes will have something supernatural happen and then just…
