James Caan is killer in this—his mannerisms, his swagger! Thief is gritty and cool and it looks great too (especially the night scenes and that fiery final job). I loved the intimate beginning diner scene between Frank and Jessie. Bring back the diner as a movie staple!

Insane that this was Michael Mann's first feature film. Makes me want to rewatch Heat.

The moment in the car when the hitman is calculating his expenditures not being worth what he's going to make on this hit was a brilliant bit of screenwriting

For such a colorful character, this was pretty standard biopic fare. I think it would have been a more interesting narrative if it had solely focused on the legal/ethical aspects of Larry's free speech case, instead of trying to squeeze his whole life into a movie.

Woody Harrelson makes the movie, he's so damn likable even playing the vilest dirtbag. Courtney Love was admittedly pretty bad (I say this as a diehard Hole fan!)

I can't believe this is the same director that made Amadeus and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest!

Strong start that fizzled into generic action movie with the most predictable ending. Watched it for the Pitt/Clooney chemistry which didn't disappoint!

Also, is it just me or does it feel like Hollywood thinks Ryan Reynolds-branded humor is the only way to be funny anymore? There's a gag towards the end that could have been ripped from Deadpool. Meh.
